Nobel Biocare Crowns - PFM Examples
|
|
|
|
|
Porcelain-Fused-To-Metal (PFM) is a process in which the dental labratory makes
a thin metal mold of your tooth as a crown. Once the crown is created, your dentist
uses cement to secure it in your month.
Key Atrtibutes:
- Least costly
- In use for many years
- Fast turn-around
Drawbacks:
- Does not allow any light transmission which can make the tooth
look unatural
- Contains metal, which has been shown to cause allergic tissue
reaction in some individuals
- Hand-made; directly dependent upon technician's skill to create.
Skill and experience vary amoung technicians
- Gum may recede over time, leaving a gray line at the base
of your tooth.

Nobel Biocare Procera and Alumina Ceramic Crowns
|
|
|
Procera Ceramic Crowns are designed by CAD/CAM software, providing a customized
crown that fits precisely to your prepared tooth. This process removes the varience
seen with handcrafting, which can lead to issues of fit, necessitating chairside
adjustments. Procera Crowns and Bridges are made out of super high strength ceramics.
Procera Crowns are translucent, just like your natural teeth. You won't be able
to tell the difference.
Key Atrtibutes:
- Natural-Looking - looks just like your natural teeth
- No metal; allergy-free
- No gray line due to gum recession
- Over 6 million Procera Crowns placed
- Long-lasting - may last a life time
Drawbacks:
- Procera Crowns and Bridges may be slightly higher prices
than PFM crowns and bridges
